Indie 69 September New Music Playlist cover art

ASCII and ye shall receive

Letter Nate than Beaver, as they say.

Oh that cannot be right. Isn’t that what they say?

Oh, yeah. Better late than never. Very true, unless you’re waiting for an organ.

Minimalist cover art this month, eh? It’s a new trend for me, I think.  For a while anyway. This image caught my eye, as I have been reading a few non-fiction books covering the influences of 60’s culture on science and technology. The best so far has been “What the Dormouse Said – How the 60’s Counterculture shaped the personal computer” (non-affiliate links to Amazon), but I’m still digging into “How the Hippies Saved Physics: Science, Counterculture, and the Quantum Revival” and really enjoying it.  So when I saw this GEM of an old kit computer, AND it said “69” on the display, I stopped looking. Perfection.

If someone tries to tell you the 60’s was a waste of a decade, slam a pie in that person’s face. That person is full of poop. Why not full of pie as well? Mmmm… pie.

Oh, I almost forgot to make excuses.

Here it goes…..

Umm, my dog ate my playlist. Traffic was HORRIBLE! I just found out that one guy, yeah, who used to clip my uncle’s toenails and collect them in jars? Yeah he like, died and stuff. We were so close. TERRORISM! (was scary) My boss made me stay late ’cause Greg called in sick.  My socks didn’t match and it took me 14 days to find a pair.  I was naming my new band and all I could come up with were combinations of  the words tropical, party, vacation, summer, youth, young, camp, ocean, lagoon, river,  a whole bunch of Canadian provinces/cities, and lake.  Weird. Kept.  me.  busy. ( is it just me?? or does anyone else notice this stuff?? )  My playlist fell of the back of my truck.  No, seriously.  And I don’t even have a truck.  Wow.

The truth is actually a tiny bit personal and a little of the same old, same old problems with Internet, memory cards/sticks, etc. When I finally did have time, I didn’t want to do a rush job. It ended up taking a lot longer than I’d expected (or am used to). So there’s that. Seems to be yet another trend. Note to self: Start earlier AND never type “note to self” again….. again.

The good news is…. great playlist.  138 tracks! Another double-sizer.

You can get it …HERE and in all of the usual dens.

Sorry if you spot any dupes/repeats (songs that have already been featured in previous months). I do my best to catch them. But there are 2 or 3 tracks in there that are not particularly new. Just new for me, and hopefully you too.

See you here and in October.  I’ve gotta get to recording *Camp Alberta Lake Summer Youth Party Vacation Lagoon Kids‘ debut E.P. , tentatively titled “The  End Of Summer Bonfire Singalong E.P.”  Or maybe it’ll be self-titled.  See you here (perhaps) soon and in October for sure.

Indie and New Music Playlist Round-Up – September 2010

September 14, 2010 3 comments

I figure… as long as I get this done before the 15th, it’s not late. So, depending on when you see this, it is or is not “late”. Either way, I’ve had a chance to listen to a couple of these and it IS a good month. Just wish I had time to grab them all. Looks like Criznittle is sitting September out. We miss ya. Remember, when I find new playlists, I add them to the list for the month. So check back here often for updates. Here’s the rest….

Cut the Crap Cover artCut the Crap is back. Let the Crap be Cut!! Good to hear this one. The name fits, really. It seems like time and effort are put into these to get a certain quality and selection. And you will find tracks here that none of the other playlists have. It’s a different take on things. Refreshing. I know it says August, but it really came out in Sept. So have at it all HERE.

Jimdo's Indie Rock Music September 2010 cover artJimdo’s playlists are always great and this is no exception. You know, this is really dull sometimes, having nothing negative to say. The truth is, I just love all the lists and get a gigantic kick out of hearing SO MUCH new music all the time. And it would be hard for one of these playlists to go terribly wrong. But I SWEAR.. this one. … this Jimdo’s playlist is special. Yes, if you download all of them, you will get some repeats. But that’s not exactly hard to fix. It’s worth it. Grabster HERE.

SAG's Indie Electro Rock Playlist September 2010 cover art. Here we have a stated and very real difference. There’s a lot more bleep-bloop here. That’s not a bad thing. And there are some GREAT bleepin’ bloopin’ tracks out this month. Don’t let anyone tell you that this music cannot “rock”. Oh it can. And will. Bleep it bleepin’ HERE (link to multiupload on indierockplaylists.com). Really needs to be a torrent of this every month.

Indie 69 September 2010 Cover art.Alright. What’s the deal with the name? There have been over 100 tracks for 2 months running now. So it’s not that there are 69 tracks. Is this guy some kind of perv or something? I mean, WTF!? Is that some kind of a joke? SixtyNine! Oooh, how original. I bet he thought that’d get some attention, huh? Jeeze. And then with the cover art? What is that? A Doctor Who font? Nerrrrrrrrd!!!! lol. I cannot believe this guy still thinks anyone cares what he thinks is good on a given month in music. But he just keeeeeps doing it. Over and OVER and OVER. I guess if you like that sort of thing it’s worth grabbing this month. I guess it’s good for…. completists? That’s about it, really. Stop encouraging him. If you MUST.. grab it HERE.

That’s it for this month. I hope this list comes in handy for everyone. Also, there’s a new site out there you may have seen mentioned in the comments called IndieRockPlaylists.com . It’s well maintained, easy on the eyes and the person doing it is pretty darned cool. So check it out. You may find it a more convenient place to grab everything. And there are tons of artist links on the lists. Nice touch. But.. umm.. come back here anyway! lol. See you next month and in the blog. I promised higher volume of posts and I am delivering. So check back often.

Indie 69 Sept 2010 Playlist Released (finally!!)

September 12, 2010 2 comments

Indie 69 September 2010 Cover ArtFINALLY!! It’s actually here. 113 tracks this time. Why? Well, because I can and because I was just running out of time and that’s what was left today out of an original 300 or so tracks to choose from. Apologies in advance for any dupes from last month. While I was able to take the time to review each track, I could have easily not recognized a few from last month as I have just not had the time to listen to everything multiple times in the last 30 days or so.

I don’t really have a good excuse I can share at the moment, so I’ll just sincerely ask for your forgiveness for being so late this month. Will NOT happen again unless I’m dead or enslaved. Luckily, the music here is great! Lots of stuff I have never heard or heard of before. Not as many familiar faces. More dancy, techy, bleepy bloopy stuff this month. Or at least that’s my perception.  It feels like a mid-summer, right in the heat of it, mix. Instead of a LATE summer mix. And mixed in there is a lot of new Americana-flavored bits as well as some truly odd tracks. A couple of instrumentals, some dreamy, echo-laden reverbsturbation and a modicum of guitars.

You can grab the playlist  HERE!! AND at all the usual places it pops up. (Yes, I have heard the calls for megaupload, rapidshare, etc etc. I will get to that soon, but in the meantime if anyone else wants to do it and e-mail the link or post in comments, please.. please DO.)

The submissions of music are coming in at a little faster rate, which is nice. But I need MORE. Use the dropbox or the preferred method of e-mailing one to two tracks at a time at

indiesixtynine@gmail.com (not a link)

and I will give ALL tracks an honest listen. Even if I don’t dig it and think someone out there will, I will include it on the playlist. That’s just how these muffins bake, baby.

The monthly Playlist Round-Up is coming within the next couple of days, and those promised more frequent updates are in the works as of today. So watch for that, too. I just watched a video this morning of a live performance that almost brought me to tears. It helps that I’m a gigantic fan of this band, but I honestly think anyone that lets the video and audio just wash over them and give it a real listen (especially on headphones) will have a similar experience/reaction. So good it nearly hurt me inside. It made me ache a bit, honestly. Can’t wait to share it. Later today. And I just found out one of my favorite new bands is from my town! Trippy. So maybe I can get an on-person or at the very least catch a live show. More on all that later. If you like me, there will be more of me. If you don’t? Just grab the playlists and ignore all this other crap.

That’s about it for me. Enjoy the belated September gift of new music and I’ll see you around here I hope.
