Indie69 is a monthly playlist featuring new indie music of all types.  These playlists can be downloaded (for now) via bittorrent on various popular sites.

The playlists were started in Feb, 2009 with the Indie69 Feb 2009 (free criznittle edition) due to the gaping hole Crizz left when he went away.

Criznittle created the monthly Indie Rock Playlists and stopped around the end of 2008.  He was the master, the best and we all missed him like crazy. Then he came back! (and left again for a bit)

This BLOG is a way to keep everyone who downloads the monthly playlists up to date on the releases, as well as a way to spotlight and focus on new artists, releases and overlooked albums you may have missed the first time around. It’s also a way for me to publish my writing on several subjects including music, Internet culture, rarely politics, law, film, TV and various other related subjects.

Q: Why should I read your blog?

A: Two possible reasons. One is that you download the playlist and like it, therefore you want to stay notified of when and where it will be when it comes out. The other is that you’ve actually read those NFO files in the playlist folder and are entertained by my musings. Or both. Or maybe you just love music and are looking for another source to find new stuff to listen to.

Q: What makes your blog special?

A: Well, I’m not sure, really. You may notice I usually don’t write about things I do NOT like. Some people think that by avoiding writing about bad stuff, you’re not really being a critic. Inadvertently, many of these “critics” make a career out of tearing down people’s dreams. They may not mean to, or may not even consider the possibility. I’ll always be honest about things though. If I think a song or an album suggests that the artist has “done better” or has the promise of doing better in the future, I’ll say so. Maybe even in a nice way, by pointing out their strengths rather than their weaknesses. Chances are, that artist already knows about his or her weaknesses and having a stranger point them out does said artist (or audience) no service. And since a quick listen nowadays is so easy to come by, you have the tools to come to your own decision on your own without some “tastemaker” to lead you by the hand to your own opinion. I’m not saying the days of criticism are over when it comes to music, I’m just saying much like the value of recorded music has changed, maybe the value of music criticism has changed as well. If an artist pours his or her heart and soul into a project, and people seem to love it, what good does it do for me or for them to try and convince them otherwise? I’m not sure that act is a valuable one, or at least not as valuable as it used to be. Exceptions being  Coldplay and Nickleback. They suck. Deal with it. What else makes it special? Well, I don’t accept ads. WordPress may be showing you ads right now, but that’s only because I have not started paying them 29.95 or whatever it is a year to remove ads. When I do pay that fee, the ads will be gone and will not be replaced. In the event that for whatever reason I cannot afford to do this anymore, I will consider a single sponsor that is not a label or a band. But that time has not come and I do not expect it to anytime soon. So, in that sense, if you feel you can trust a source and opinion better because they are not paid by anyone to write about anything, then you can probably trust me more than someone who does get paid to write. Or not. Not everyone who gets paid to write about music is a sell-out. That’s a fact you may not be comfortable with, but it IS an indisputable fact. What else makes me special? Well, my mommy thinks I am.
